KIM KI O - Bir, İki...
Ekin and Berna met as kids and started playing music soon after. In 2007, they got a hold of a bass, a synth, and some cheap electronics and formed kim ki o. Staying simple and minimalistic, their music emulated some influences (Joy Division/New Order, early Kraftwerk); but, even early on they used their vocals (distant, soft, at times incorporating Turkish melodies) to make their sound their own.
They released two short-run CDrs, an album on Enfant Terrible (Dans, one of Ss mail order's best sellers), and album on Letonia (Grounds). They also provided the soundtrack to Merve Kayan & Zaynep Dadak's film Elope and scored the biriken play Re: Fwd: die in good company. They provided soundtrack material for Kayan & Dadak's first full length film (The Blue Wave) which earned them a "best music" nomination at the Golden Orange Film Festival).
Bir, İki... compiles the best cuts from kim ki o's long out of print CDs, with a song from Enfant Terrible's Radio Resistancia cd comp. While the original CDrs were somewhat muddy, we found crystal clear recordings of the songs and gave them to John Golden to make them sound even better. The result is a strong, clear, warm sound. This has gotten spun a lot since this project began: at home, at work, in the car. We are excited about this one and hope you are, too. (Ss)
